This is the current state of my TJ. All that is wrong with her is a leaky heater core.
Steering Column Out
Dash Out
AC System Purged and Disconnected at the evaporator.
Cooling System Drained
Entire HVAC Box Out
And this is on a vehicle that is supposed to be easy to work on and a part that is a common failure on all vehicles. Modern, ok in this case semi modern cars are hard to work on. At least this gives me a chance to clean out all the dust that comes with being topless.
On a plus note, I scored a factory center console for her for about half what the normal market price is. I have been patiently waiting and looking for over a year. They typically go for well north of $250 and there was no way that I was going to pay that for a used interior part.

I get the faint sent of coolant when running the heat sometimes in my Miata and have found wet spots on my passenger floor mat before. Certainly an indicator of leaking heater core. Since it has not failed yet, I have perpetually put off going through this. Should be easier in my car I hope though!

Mine went all at once. It is a toy and we recently had a spell of 34 days below freezing and plenty of nights below 0°f and it was setting in the garage through it all. Prior to that I had no issues then got it out on one of the nice days following and it looked like a fog machine pouring out of my dash.

Oh man that will be motivation to change it quick haha. Mine has been like that for a couple of years. I have driven the car like 50k miles in that time so its gone into the realm of it aint broke dont fix it! I am thinking it might have been a small leak that sealed itself with dried coolant but who knows.

Man, that looks terrible. Makes me grateful for an older truck. Remove glove box, remove ABS module behind that, remove cover behind that, then remove the heater core behind that. Swapped it out in under an hour.

Looks in the same vein as a Sl500 Mercedes of the same era.
My dad is in need, not to mention the soft top work as well.
Basically the whole interior. Needs to be exterior

I laughed at this.

In my XJ I refused to remove my steering wheel. It was a bitch and a half but it saved me five to ten steps.

It can be done without pulling the column, but is easier this way plus you get the opportunity to clean the years and years of filth behind there.

same process for a Chevy/Holden Cruze

That’s what I figured, I knew it was a fairly similar process between the two. If I had to do it again I would take it all apart. Plus add some stuff to stop rattles and squeaks between panels. They have some material on there but it’s not great.

I bought stock in rubber and nylon washers last night. lol. I get it that it’s a jeep, but the dash has a tendency to sound like there are 5 monkeys playing maracas back there.

My back hatch sounds like that right now. Pretty soon the engine is being taken out so while it’s out of commission I’m ripping the interior apart and doing the same. Taking the interior apart is a lot easier than one would think.
